Bed & Breakfast - Yamhill County Wine Country
B&Bs, rental cottages are popular in the valley
The Yamhill Valley has long been known for its charming bed and breakfast inns. In recent years, even more of these intimately personalized accommodations have come on the scene — some quaint and picturesque, others decidedly upscale.
From the stately Queen Anne Victorian Joseph Mattey House west of Lafayette to the posh Black Walnut Inn in the Dundee Hills to the alpine chalet Steiger Haus just south of downtown McMinnville, the selection is remarkably diverse.
McMinnville's A Tuscan Estate will wrap you in Colonial splendor. You’ll be surrounded by vineyards at peaceful Lobenhaus B&B, horse-stabled White Country Farm and sprawling Abbey Road Farms, all in the wine country east of Carlton.
In the town of Carlton, the historic R.R. Thompson House and the cozy Carlton Inn await those who thirst for immersion in wine tasting the moment they walk out the front door.
If you want to survey the world from a towering hilltop, there's Youngberg Hill south of McMinnville. You can gaze across a private lake at Brookside Inn north of Lafayette, or relax in the garden of the Kelty House right in town.
In all cases, the key is to reserve early for popular weekends. There's a list of area B&Bs below.
An even newer twist to overnight lodging are private rental cottages, retreats & guesthouses (below). They’re cropping up both in town neighborhoods and country acreage all over the valley.
“The valley is a great place to live and work. It has everything we enjoy — the wine, the food and especially, the people. Once our B&B days are over, we plan to retire here.” says Jack Seed of the Joseph Mattey House.
“We are blessed with some of the best wine grape growing territory in the world, bountiful foods grown locally, spectacular views, wonderfully moderate weather, and some of the best restaurants in the country." adds Wayne Bailey, owner of Youngberg Hill Vineyard and Inn.
"Our diverse agricultural environment coupled with the wine industry’s smaller 'family farm' structure, makes our environment friendly both to each other and to our guests.” Care of Discover Yamhill County.

Hotels/Motels - Yamhill County Wine Country
Old Style Charm, luxury and convenience are all options
The Allison Inn and Spa in Newberg is the newest addition to the Yamhill Valley lodging scene. Hotel Oregon and numerous alternatives are also here.
The Allison offers luxurious accommodations and numerous resort-style amenities in a wine country setting.
“In my entire career, I’ve never seen anything like this." says Pierre Zreik, The Allison's managing director. "The Allison is a great asset for the entire valley. It’s getting terrific media attention and putting the area on the map as never before."
The inn is the largest luxury inn within the Willamette Valley's wine region. It offers 85 deluxe rooms and suites on four levels, all located in the east wing of the four-story, 155,000-square-foot hotel complex.
Vines already are in the ground on The Allison's own five-acre pinot noir vineyard, which was planted by David Adelsheim of Newberg's Adelsheim Winery. The inn staff now manages the vineyard in preparation for a 2012 vintage. The grounds also feature a garden, from which Executive Chef Stephen Marshall will gather fresh produce daily for the Jory restaurant. Named for the soil that characterizes the region, Jory will be open every day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.
Historic hotels are few and far between these days. If you're looking for something with some old-school charm, McMenamin’s Hotel Oregon in downtown McMinnville is a quintessential example of creativity in old-style, quality lodging for which the near-legendary Portland brothers have become widely known. A turn-of-the-century restaurant and bar on the ground floor and a penthouse pub with the best view in McMinnville complete the Hotel Oregon experience.
Down the road in Willamina, the enterprising Vinson sisters of Willamina operate the Wild Wood Hotel and Restaurant on Main Street, a rustic step back in time designed to tickle your nostalgic fancy.
Hotel/motel chains such as Best Western, Comfort Inn or Red Lion in McMinnville and Travelodge or Towne & Country Motel in Newberg offer reliably straightforward alternatives. Care of Discover Yamhill County.
