Located on Astoria, Oregon's historic waterfront, the acclaimed Columbia River Maritime Museum displays one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the west coast. Explore the extreme forces at work along the Columbia River Bar. Learn about waves that can exceed 40 feet in height during the most severe winter storms. See exciting exhibits on the U.S. Coast Guard and the Columbia River Bar Pilots. Witness the legendary salmon fishing runs and take a tour of a floating lighthouse, the lightship Columbia, 2 cannon from the 1846 wreck of the USS Shark, a US Navy vessel that ran aground on the Columbia Bar as it attempted to leave the Northwest after touring the territory and a new exhibit on the perilous passage of crossing the bar. Also here is the Pilot Boat Peacock and find out what life was like aboard the lightship Columbia by taking a self-guided tour. $14 per adult admission and includes the Lightship Columbia—a National Historic Landmark. Docent-led group tours of 10+ ppl ($10 per adult) are available with 2 weeks notice. Tour is 45 min to 1 hour but allow 1.5-2 hours for your visit to visit the museum and Lightship Columbia (20 minutes).
