A SECRET SMUGGLER'S COVE*
Join me and follow the signs on an easy, meandering half mile path. Hike through Sitka Spruce on the Old Growth Forest Trail, and climb over some handsomely weathered ocean debris towards this picturesque cove . Legend has it there's buried treasure there, of the 17th century Manila (Spanish) Galleon Santo Cristo de Burgos.
A Native American story tells of a galleon coming to the bluff, just north of Manzanita, and its crew burying a mysterious chest there — guarded by the body of a murdered crew member. Is it true? And has the treasure already been found?

*The smuggler's cove - Add this easy hike into the old-growth forest, an undisturbed section of Oregon coast, populated by old-growth cedar, hemlock, Douglas fir & Sitka spruce. It's an impressive patch of ancient Temperate Rainforest. With so many ferns, it could be Jurassic Park.
If we had to pick a spot, that embodies almost everything that defines the Oregon Coast; this old-growth forest culminating with the crescent shaped smuggler's cove, with never-found Spanish Galleon buried treasures, is it.
This forest & cove is as fine a temple as nature can create...
one of our most treasured places at the coast."
Your guide will show you the way. You pass many an impressive giant. The short walk is about a half mile each way, and will get you away from engine noise, and elicit a great sense of nurturing solitude.

Also here, is a moderate 5 mile Round Trip hike up to Cape Falcon, where there's a towering forest of huge Sitka Spruce and lava headland, with a 300-foot elevation gain, and 200-foot high point, with views of a sprawling dramatic coastline, high above the crashing waves.
