Legend has it, there's pirate's buried treasure here, at Short Sand Beach, a beach nestled in the Oswald West State Park. A Native American story tells of a galleon coming to the bluff, just north of Manzanita, and its crew burying a mysterious chest there — guarded by the body of a murdered crew member. Is it true? Also here, is a moderate 5 mile Round Trip hike up to Cape Falcon, where there's a towering forest of huge Sitka Spruce and lava headland, with a 300-foot elevation gain, and 200-foot high point, with views of a sprawling dramatic coastline, high above the crashing waves.
