TASTING TIPS -- No one needs a primer on tasting beer, but consider a few tips on how to better appreciate it! "But how the heck do you get to taste without being overwhelmed?" Don't fret, we're here to help. The best way to tackle it is by the Portland Brew Bus, choosing a few breweries and enjoying a pitcher(s) or sampler tray(s)* at each...then, slow down.
Look at your beer--the quality of its head, the amount of carbonation you see.
Then smell--does it remind you of anything?
Now sip. How does it feel on your palate? Is it spiked with bubbles, or smooth and creamy? How are the flavors changing? Is there an aftertaste? Do you like it???
*We highly recommend trying a sampler tray(s) at any or all breweries. It's a chance to taste a range of beers, which usually includes a seasonal and some styles you might not have otherwise. By sharing a taster tray, it also allows you to more easily limit your intake so as to imbibe lightly, allowing you to get to more breweries..
