We'll pull over here, for a moment, so that we can give you a narrative of the town of Corbett. Then, of the historic highway, and, our 1st stop, Chanticleer Point.
For many years, between eighteen seventy nine, and 1909, where we are now, there was a station here, named Corbett, on the Union Pacific Railroad, at the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge. It's now gone.
Now there only remains a small commercial cluster, called the Royal Chinook Inn, built in 1941.
This is where Corbett Hill Road leaves I-84, and climbs the hill, to connect to the town, and the historic highway.
When many towns got washed out, during the famous eighteen ninety four flood, many moved to Corbett, up on the bluff, near our next stop, where the community resided.
Now, before we leave this spot, I'll start the Old Highway, and Chanticleer Point introductions.
Because there is quite a bit to cover.
Does anyone have any questions?
